3 Tbls oil

2 onions, chopped

2 tsp crushed garlic

500 g minced beef

2 slice bread, crusts removed

250 ml milk

1 Tbls curry powder

2 tsp masala

1 tsp tumeric

¼ cup peach jam

¼ cup seedless raisins

Salt and pepper

1 egg

6 bay leaves


Fry the onions and garlic in oil till transparent.

Add beef. Brown for 10 minutes.

Place bread in milk. Leave it to soak for 6 minutes. Squeeze the bread out.
Reserve the milk (from bread). Add the bread to the onion mixture.

Add all the spices as well as the jam and raisins to the onion and beef
mixture. Cover for 10 mins.

Spoon mixture into individual oven dishes.

Bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Season.

Mis the egg with the remaining milk.

Remove bobotie from oven, pour over the egg custard. Return to the oven for
another 15 minutes.

Serve warm with rice or salad.
